2027 Toyota bZ Range: EPA-Estimated Miles by Trim, Battery, and Drivetrain

2027 Toyota bZ Range: EPA-Estimated Miles by Trim, Battery, and Drivetrain

The 2027 Toyota bZ, the electric SUV formerly known as the bZ4X, offers an EPA-estimated range rating of 236 to 314 miles, depending on grade, battery, and drivetrain. The front-wheel-drive XLE FWD Plus leads the lineup at an EPA-estimated 314 miles, and the dual-motor XLE AWD reaches an EPA-estimated 288 miles.

For 2027, Toyota carries the bZ over unchanged, so the five-configuration lineup, battery options, and charging hardware match the 2026 model, according to the Toyota USA Newsroom. For daily commutes along the 101 or weekend trips through Southern California, even the standard 57.7-kWh battery provides ample range without constant charging stops.

How Does Range Vary Across 2027 Toyota bZ Trims and Batteries?

Five configurations, two battery sizes

Battery capacity is the biggest factor in maximum range.

  • XLE FWD: 57.7-kWh battery with a 165-hp motor.
  • All other configurations: the larger 74.7-kWh pack. Front-wheel-drive models with the larger pack produce 221 hp. Dual-motor all-wheel-drive models deliver 338 total system horsepower, trading a few miles of range for added power and traction.

XLE grades ride on 18-inch wheels; Limited grades step up to 20-inch wheels.

How Fast Does the 2027 Toyota bZ Charge?

About 30 minutes from 10% to 80% on DC fast charging

Every 2027 bZ has a native North American Charging System (NACS) port with direct access to compatible Tesla Supercharger stations, plus included J1772 and CCS1 adapters for other public chargers.

  • DC fast charging: under ideal conditions, 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes, at peak rates up to 150 kW. This applies to both front- and all-wheel-drive models.
  • Battery preconditioning: automatically prepares the battery when you navigate to a fast charger, so it can accept high charging power sooner.
  • Plug & Charge: streamlines authentication at supported networks. It requires an active Remote Connect trial or subscription.

At home, the included dual-voltage cable works with a standard 120V outlet (Level 1) or a 240V NEMA 14-50 outlet (Level 2), per the Toyota bZ FAQ.

What Home EV Charger Rebates Does LADWP Offer?

Up to $1,000 toward a qualified Level 2 home charger

If your home’s electricity comes from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), you may qualify for a rebate of up to $1,000 toward buying and installing a qualified Level 2 home charger. LADWP serves City of Los Angeles neighborhoods such as North Hollywood, Studio City, Valley Village, Toluca Lake, Sun Valley, and Valley Glen.

LADWP offers several related incentives:

  • Income-qualified add-on: customers enrolled in Lifeline or EZ-SAVE can receive an additional $500.
  • Dedicated EV meter: a separate rebate is available for installing one.
  • EV rate discount: applies when the charger is separately metered on a Time-of-Use (TOU) rate.

Burbank residents are served by Burbank Water and Power and should check that utility’s programs. Details are on LADWP’s electric vehicle page.

⚡ Charge Overnight, Pay Less

LADWP’s lowest-cost TOU base period runs from 8 p.m. to 10 a.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends. Plug in after dinner and a bZ can be fully charged before the morning commute at a lower cost per kilowatt-hour than daytime charging.

*Incentive availability, amounts, and eligibility are determined by the manufacturer, may change or end at any time, and may not apply to all models or buyers. See dealer for details. How Do Traffic and Summer Heat Affect Real-World Range?

City driving helps; extreme heat costs some range

Like all EVs, the bZ is more efficient in city driving than on the highway. Regenerative braking recaptures energy every time you slow down, which is why EPA-estimated city MPGe is higher than highway on every configuration. The XLE FWD, for example, is rated at 144 MPGe city and 117 MPGe highway.

Hot weather is the bigger variable. AAA testing found that EVs lose about 10% of their efficiency and roughly 8.5% of their range at 95°F compared with 75°F. To preserve range on hot afternoons:

  • Pre-condition the cabin while the bZ is still plugged in.
  • Use ventilated front seats where equipped.
  • Choose moderate climate settings.

2027 Toyota bZ Range and Charging FAQ

Can the 2027 Toyota bZ use Tesla Superchargers without an adapter?

Yes. Its built-in NACS port plugs directly into compatible Tesla Supercharger stalls and other NACS fast chargers. Toyota also includes J1772 and CCS1 adapters for stations with those connectors.

Does the 2027 Toyota bZ qualify for a federal EV tax credit?

No. Under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the federal new clean vehicle credit is not available for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025, according to the IRS.

*Incentive availability, amounts, and eligibility are determined by the manufacturer, may change or end at any time, and may not apply to all models or buyers. See dealer for details. What warranty covers the bZ battery?

Toyota covers Electric Vehicle Driving Components, including the traction battery, for 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.

*This information is provided for general educational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice. Warranty coverage depends on the specific terms of your vehicle's warranty agreement. Consult your owner's manual or a qualified legal professional for guidance on your individual situation.

How long does Level 1 charging take?

On a standard 120V outlet at 12 amps, Toyota estimates about 60 hours from 10% to 100%. That makes Level 1 best for topping up rather than full charges.

*EPA-estimated fuel economy figures are for comparison purposes only. Your actual mileage will vary depending on driving conditions, how you drive and maintain your vehicle, battery age/condition, and other factors.

What maintenance does the bZ need compared with a gas vehicle?

Without an internal combustion engine, the bZ eliminates oil changes, spark plugs, and timing belts. Scheduled maintenance focuses on tire rotations, cabin air filters, brake inspections, and multi-point checks at 5,000-mile or 6-month intervals.
