Where the value sits
The SE is the volume answer for shoppers who want the sport-grade look without the top-trim price: it adds the 18-inch alloys, the sport interior treatment and keyless entry over the LE. If fuel economy drives the decision, the Hybrid LE asks roughly $1,850 more in TSRP than the gas LE and returns dramatically better city mileage. At the top of the range, the Hybrid XLE carries about $500 more TSRP than the gas XSE while delivering the hybrid's efficiency — the gas XSE justifies itself mainly on its paddle shifters. 2027 Toyota Corolla MPG by Grade
Up to 53 city on the front-wheel-drive hybrid grades
How to read these figures
Ratings for the gas LE and the front-wheel-drive Hybrid LE and Hybrid XLE are manufacturer-estimated for the 2027 model year, per Toyota's 2027 Corolla Hybrid release. The remaining grades carry 2026 EPA ratings on unchanged powertrains, as published on Toyota's 2027 Corolla grade listing. Note that all-wheel drive does not cost the same amount of efficiency across the range — the Hybrid LE gives up two combined mpg moving to AWD, while the Hybrid SE gives up three.
Fuel Economy by Grade and Drivetrain
| Grade | Drivetrain | City | Highway | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LE | FWD | 32 | 41 | 35 |
| SE | FWD | 31 | 40 | 34 |
| XSE | FWD | 31 | 38 | 34 |

Engine, Transmission, Chassis and Dimensions
Two powertrains, one platform
Gas vs. Hybrid Powertrain
| Specification | Gas Corolla | Corolla Hybrid |
|---|---|---|
| Engine | 2.0L Dynamic Force 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve with Dual VVT-i | 1.8L 4-cylinder with Toyota Hybrid System 5 (THS 5) |
| Output | 169 hp, 151 lb-ft | 138 hp net combined (1.8L engine alone: 96 hp, 105 lb-ft) |
| Transmission | Dynamic Shift CVT with physical launch gear | ECVT |
| Drivetrain | Front-wheel drive | Front-wheel drive or available Electronic On-Demand AWD |
| Rear suspension | Torsion beam on LE; multi-link on SE and XSE | Multi-link on all hybrid grades |
| Grades | LE, SE, XSE | Hybrid LE, Hybrid SE, Hybrid XLE, 60th Anniversary |
The gas powertrain
The Dynamic Shift CVT uses a physical gearset as a launch gear for initial acceleration before handing off to the transmission's pulley system, which gives the car a more linear feel off the line than a conventional CVT.
The hybrid powertrain
THS 5 is the fifth generation of Toyota's hybrid system. Toyota publishes a net combined horsepower figure rather than a net system torque figure, which is why the torque number above refers to the gasoline engine alone.
Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive
Available on Hybrid LE and Hybrid SE grades, the system uses a dedicated rear-axle electric motor to send torque to the rear wheels when sensors detect slip — useful in wet or slick conditions, and without the weight of a mechanical driveshaft.
Chassis and dimensions
All grades use the TNGA-C platform with MacPherson strut front suspension. Multi-link rear suspension is available rather than universal, as the table above shows.
Sedan Dimensions and Capacities
| Specification | Measurement |
|---|---|
| Seating capacity | 5 |
| Trunk cargo volume | 13.1 cu. ft. |
| Wheelbase | 106.3 in. |
| Width | 70.1 in. |
| Height | 56.5 in. |
| Fuel tank (gas grades) | 13.2 gal. |
| Curb weight (gas LE) | 2,955 lbs. |

Common Questions About the 2027 Toyota Corolla
AWD availability, cargo space, trim differences and coverage
Does the 2027 Toyota Corolla Hybrid offer all-wheel drive?
Yes. Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive is available on the Hybrid LE and Hybrid SE grades. A dedicated electric motor on the rear axle supplies torque to the rear wheels when sensors detect slip, which provides added traction in rain or on loose surfaces without a mechanical driveshaft.
How much cargo space does the 2027 Corolla sedan have?
The trunk holds 13.1 cubic feet. The rear seatbacks use a 60/40 split-fold design, so one or both sides fold down for longer items.
What's the difference between the Corolla LE and the Corolla SE?
The LE covers the essentials with 16-inch steel wheels, fabric seating and a horizontal front grille. The SE adds 18-inch graphite-finish alloy wheels, a sport mesh grille, sport fabric seat inserts, Smart Key with push-button start, selectable drive modes and a multi-link rear suspension. Paddle shifters are an XSE feature, not an SE feature.
What warranty comes with a new 2027 Corolla?
Basic coverage runs 36 months or 36,000 miles and powertrain coverage runs 60 months or 60,000 miles. On hybrid models, the hybrid battery is covered for 10 years or 150,000 miles, while other hybrid-related components are covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles. ToyotaCare scheduled maintenance is included for 2 years or 25,000 miles.
What size touchscreen is standard on the 2027 Corolla?
An 8-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen is standard across the lineup. The 10.5-inch touchscreen is available on the SE and Hybrid SE and standard on the XSE, Hybrid XLE and 60th Anniversary Special Edition.
