Is the 2018 Toyota Yaris the Right Vehicle for You?

Posted Wednesday, Jan 24, 2018 by North Hollywood Toyota

The Yaris was first introduced as a 2007 model to United States car buyers at Toyota dealers in Southern California and nationwide. The Yaris had already been around since 1999 but previously was only sold in Asian and European markets. In 2016, Toyota introduced the Yaris iA, a sedan model, with the discontinuation of the Scion car line for the 2017 model year. For our purposes, we will be reviewing the 2018 Yaris model, not the iA model.

For 2018, Toyota offers the Yaris in five different trim packages for 2018, as follows:

• 3-Door L Hatchback
• 3-Door LE Hatchback
• 5-Door L Hatchback
• 5-Door LE Hatchback
• 5-Door SE Hatchback

Toyota did make some minor updates for the 2018 model year. These include:

• Refreshed rear and front fascia with a “sportier” look.
• 16-inch aluminum wheels on select SE models.
• Two new color options: Blue Eclipse with Black Sand Pearl roof and Blue Eclipse.
• Upgraded instrument cluster now standard.
• Tilt steering with audio controls now standard.
• A standard USB quick charge port on all trim packages.
• Bluetooth music streaming from a connected device standard on all trim packages.
• An upgraded infotainment center with updated features and options now standard.
• Built-in Siri “Eyes-Free” capability standard on all trim packages.
• Optional dealer installed navigation system app.
• Standard backup camera.

Other updates are notable in the SE trim package and include:

• Satellite Radio
• HD Radio/Audio System with Weather and Traffic Reports
• Larger Infotainment Touchscreen
• Navigation App

Aside from these updates and changes, the most significant one is the newly updated safety features found on all Yaris trim packages that come standard. These include:

• Nine airbags as part of the Yaris’ Advanced Airbag System.
• Star Safety System™, which includes six standard safety features like Traction Control, Vehicle Stability Control, Electronic-Brake-force Distribution, Anti-lock Brake System, Smart Stop Technology®, and Brake Assist.
• Pre-Collision System
• Lane Departure Alert
• Automatic High Beams

In addition, all new 2018 Yaris models and trim packages include ToyotaCare, which is a no-cost maintenance plan that covers standard maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Roadside assistance is also included for two years or unlimited miles.

What Makes the 2018 Yaris a Great Buy?

If you are in the market for a subcompact vehicle, the 2018 Yaris is a good choice. Base models start around $15,635, which is a decent price for this car class. Compared to other subcompacts, Toyota has included a host of advanced safety features and technologies as standard equipment, not optional upgrades.

Why Would the 2018 Yaris Be the Right Vehicle for You?

The Yaris is the right vehicle if you want a safe and reliable subcompact model. It is even a great first vehicle for teenaged drivers. The Yaris would also be a good fit if you want a fuel-efficient subcompact, as it gets an estimated 30 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway.
