As technologies continue to advance, so do the types of materials used to manufacture automobiles. Using eco-friendly materials also means safety considerations have to be accounted for in the vehicle’s design. To address these changes, for 2018 the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) updated its requirements for its Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ crash test ratings.

Our Los Angeles Toyota dealership is excited that Toyota Motor Corporation excelled in meeting these new requirements. Due to the ongoing commitment at Toyota to continue to improve safety while delivering quality vehicles, the car manufacturer netted a total of ten Top Safety Pick awards and one Top Safety Pick+ award. Out of the ten Top Safety Pick awards, four vehicles are from the company’s Lexus brand.

The requirements to be rated and awarded a Top Safety Pick for 2018 by the IIHS include:

• Driver Side Small Overlap Front Crash Good Rating
• Moderate Overlap Front Crash Good Rating
• Moderate Overlap Side Crash Good Rating
• Roof Strength Test Good Rating
• Head Restraint Tests Good Rating
