2018 Toyota Camry Takes IIHS Top Safety Rating

Generations of drivers have trusted the Toyota Camry as a safe and reliable automobile they can trust with their families’ safety. Toyota has earned that trust yet again, earning the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety’s highest safety rating.

Now available at Los Angeles Toyota dealers, the 2018 Toyota Camry makes significant strides in safety and a variety of other features. The safety improvements incorporated into the design of the Camry are significant and got the attention and approval of the IIHS.

For 2018, Toyota improved the headlights and automatic emergency braking, putting the vehicle over the top with reviewers from the IIHS, which awarded the 2018 Camry with the Top Safety Pick +, which is their highest award.

Toyota improved the vehicle’s headlights to obtain solid ratings from the IIHS. Toyota tweaked its automatic emergency braking, allowing it to earn an “Advanced” rating. The new model’s automatic braking speed is able to come to a complete stop from 12 mph to 25 mph, whereas the old model was only able to reduce collision speeds from these test speeds.

To earn the IIHS’s Top Safety Pick+, vehicles must earn “Good” ratings in the IIHS’s five crashworthiness tests—small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints.

The new Toyota Camry offers many safety features as standard equipment, including 10 airbags, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and mitigation, and auto-dimming LED headlights.

Other Improvements

Safety isn’t the only area where the Camry has made improvements. The Camry has revised its powertrain choices and now offers a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine generating 203 horsepower as its standard engine. Buyers can also opt for a 3.5-liter V6 that cranks out 301 horsepower. A hybrid engine is also offered.

The new engines give a more-than-adequate amount of oomph, and the Camry’s braking system is solid. Steering is well-balanced and responsive. Handling, steering, and road noise have been improved by a stiffer platform and double-wishbone rear suspension. The new suspension system is a marked improvement over the old rear strut system, and it is one being taken notice of by reviewers and customers alike.

The new Camry offers a spacious cabin that’s very kid-friendly. Parents with young children requiring car seats will appreciate the roomy back seat, which makes loading and unloading easy. Dashboard buttons and other controls are intuitive and easy to use.

Past versions of the Camry have been a little frumpy, but Toyota changed that for 2018 by giving the vehicle a lower, more streamlined look. The new Camry has two distinct styling themes, and which trim level you get will determine what look your vehicle will have.

The newest version of the Camry is a worthy successor to its predecessors, and buyers will enjoy the upgraded styling and safety features.
