As the new model year begins, carmakers are introducing new models and new generations of old favorites. To kick off the 2016 model year, the all-new Toyota Prius was unveiled at the Las Vegas World Premiere Event. Just as the Prius originally created the mold and set the standard for hybrid vehicles, the new 4th generation Prius has once again upset the status quo. There may not have been any Los Angeles Toyota dealers at the event, but industry news will make sure all local dealers are prepared for the new arrival!

Signs of the Times
When the Prius was first introduced nearly 20 years ago, there was no standard and no expectations for hybrid vehicles. Today, consumers have expectations. Environmental credentials, lighter components, thermal efficiency, better fuel economy, and many more features are in demand. The new Prius most definitely delivers on these expectations and more.

More than 350 social influencers, journalists, and guests of Toyota watched as the newly designed 2016 Prius was elevated into the sky over Las Vegas. The event was a fully spectacular production, including music, food, and special effects. One of the most interesting parts of the event was that, despite a lot of flash and flair, Toyota is introducing a solid and sound vehicle that exceeds industry expectations. Bill Fay, group vice president and general manager of the Toyota Division, said “Prius set the global benchmark for hybrids, but now is breaking its own boundaries with more engaging style and fun to drive dynamics. What was once a rational purchase that for many customers focused on fuel economy is now so much more. This Prius will invite new drivers into the category by delivering an impressive look and feel, built on the foundation of safety and eco-consciousness that defines the vehicle’s heritage.”

The New Look
One reason many consumers have not embraced the Prius is that, for too many people, it appears to be clunky and weak. Besides the engine modifications and changes the 2016 Prius features a sporty new look that will please past naysayers. The exterior has been completely reimagined. You’ll see a longer sleeker outline that is inspired by a runner at the starting block.  With a lower hood and a more forward roof peak, bold character lines and lowered rear spoiler, the whole car is sleek and sporty. There are also brand new colors to choose from, including Hypersonic Red. The updated hybrid also uses a newly developed treatment process to help highlight the new shape.

Safety First
As always, no matter how great a vehicle looks and drives, Toyota is more concerned with safety. The new Prius offers Toyota Safety Sense, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alerts, and automatic high beams.

If you missed the world premiere of the 2016 Toyota Prius in Las Vegas, don’t worry: Many of us weren’t invited, either. You’ll see the brand new Prius on the lots of most Los Angeles Toyota dealers in the next few months. Visit and take a test drive to see just how much has changed since the first generation of Prius was introduced.  Chances are you’ll be surprised, and you may even add a hybrid to your family!
