Los Angeles Toyota Dealers are just a small part of the worldwide Toyota family. This large corporation has plants and dealers all over the world and does a whole lot more than just make vehicles. The Toyota Partnership program makes it possible for children with life threatening medical conditions, and their families, to create magical moments at a family camp. This is just one of the many ways that Toyota gives back to communities.

Family Vacation in Kentucky
While you may not think of Scottsville, Ky., as a vacation destination, for some families it is more than just a vacation—it is a much needed life-changing experience.  The Center for Courageous Kids (CCK) is a year-round dedicated medical camp. Since 2008 it has served more than 20,000 “campers” from 43 states and 8 countries. Campers are children who are medically fragile. Unlike going to a treatment center, the CCK offers a full on-site medical center as well as an indoor aquatic complex, horseback riding, bowling, a climbing wall, theater, and boating and fishing. It’s a camp for families that also offers comprehensive medical care.

What This Camp Means to Families
Courtney Collins’ family loves the camp, and she said, “It’s a much needed break from our normal lives and the hectic pace of school, work, doctor’s appointments, and treatments.” Ms. Collins’ son is a 10-year-old who has several medical challenges, including primary immune deficiency and epilepsy, and her 14-year-old daughter has asthma. She goes on to say that CCK “gives our family a chance to focus on having fun and spending time together, but we still know that the trained staff can handle all of the medical needs that might occur. On a social level it’s great for my kids to be around others who have similar medical challenges and understand what our daily lives are like.”

How Toyota Helps
The amazing thing about the CCK program is that it is entirely free of charge to these families. Thanks to support from companies like Toyota, families are able to take this time to reconnect, to have fun, and to take a little while to live their lives without the stress and misery of treatments and appointments, without falling behind on any medical progress.  Toyota recently donated $20,000 to the organization and sent a group to visit.

Rick Hesterberg from Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky, Inc. is one member of the group that went to visit the CCK program and see the impact it has on the families who attend. He said, “Toyota is proud to partner with CCK to make these moments possible for families. We want to help people get where they need to go, both on the road and in life. This program provides a critical need for families already dealing with so much stress. Seeing the smiles and hearing the laughter from children and families who face immense challenges everyday—it’s clear this is a very special place.”

Toyota is an amazing company that makes every effort to give back to the local communities that it serves around the country. Being able to help families with medically ill children take a much needed vacation is just one of the programs that Toyota donates to and participates in around the US.
