While there were some amazing cars and SUVs that made their debut at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, there were also rumblings in the off-road world as the Ford Raptor SVT faced competition from the Ram Rebel and Nissan Titan PRO-4X. Toyota also introduced the Tundra TRD Pro, which is the newest option for the 2015 Toyota Tundra pickup truck. The TRD has the basic utility expected from a pickup truck, but also has a comprehensive app suite and off-road capability combined with on-road comfort.

Great Off-Road Suspension

Essentially the Tundra TRD Pro is a 5.7 liter, 381 horsepower V8 with six speed auto transmission and sequential shift mode, as well as tow/haul mode. When it’s time to head off-road, this truck has what it takes, including TRD tuned springs, 2.5 inch Bilstein shocks, three-stage compression dampening, and a heavy duty front skid plate. In other words, whether you plan to climb rocks or find some mud, the 2015 Tundra TRD Pro is ready to work! You will hear the powerful roar and enjoy the smooth ride even when climbing boulders.

Unique Styling and Look

The TRD Pro is a distinct model from the basic Tundra, which is notable just by looking at it. With black bezel headlights, and oversized grille and black badges, this truck looks a little bit dangerous—and definitely ready for off-road fun and games. You can’t miss the TRD Pro bed stamp and 18 inch TRD black alloy wheels sporting 32s. There is no chance of mistaking the TRD Pro for a basic Toyota Tundra or any other vehicle. You can get the TRD Pro in a double cab or crew max, which means you, can limit who rides with you, or make it a group adventure.

The inside looks great and is also good to go if you want to go get dirty. It has TRD Pro carpet mats, leather accented knobs, bucket seats and full Entune audio and navigation with an App Suite infotainment system.

Technology Made Easy

Toyota is known for its use of technology, and the 2015 Tundra TRD Pro is no different. You can easily use the 7-inch touch screen for the Entune system that features AM/FM radio, satellite radio, CD head unit, USB port, Aux-in jack, Bluetooth, and the Entune App Suite. No matter how far away you are from town, your Smartphone and Entune will help you keep in touch, and will even call for assistance if you need it.

When comparing the 2015 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro to the extreme off-road Ford Raptor vehicle, the TRD comes in with a lower price tag while having better cargo and tow capacity. This makes it a more versatile truck that will handle well both on road and off. The TRD Pro has been awarded PCMag.com’s Editor’s Choice award as an excellent 4×4 vehicle suitable for on-road driving and off-road playing.
